Our data standards

Every listing should help you understand what is recorded, where it came from, and what still needs checking.

Sources have different strengths

  • Hotel-listed: information published by the property. It is a claim, even when the source was checked recently.
  • Guest-review snapshots: dated rating numbers and review counts; no guest review text is reproduced. They summarize other people's experiences.
  • Mapping and computed estimates: checked property locations, direct distances and nearby mapped nightlife. They do not establish walking times, road access or bedroom noise.
  • Measured: recorded room-level tests with a date and method. No completed onsite room audits currently support the published hotel scores.
  • Not confirmed: insufficient evidence in the current record. This does not mean a feature is absent.

We retain current source records and rejected or superseded observations internally. The detailed evidence section is not currently displayed on hotel pages. A high source count is not proof of independent verification.

Scores and commercial independence

Pokhara Stay Score is a computed editorial comparison, separate from guest ratings and official stars. Quality labels and evidence confidence are shown separately. Hotels cannot pay to improve PSS: commissions and payments are not scoring inputs. Provisional scores are separated from the main Best Hotels ranking.

Freshness and prices

Each source carries its own check date. Hotel-published starting rates expire after 14 days; Booking.com estimates expire after 60 days. Eligible prices show their source and check date beside the amount. They are snapshots, not current availability or quotes for your trip.

There is no guaranteed whole-directory refresh schedule. Records are updated when research or corrections supply new evidence; individual dates show what has actually been checked.

Corrections and owner submissions

Send the hotel page, the specific correction, its date and supporting evidence through Contact & Corrections. Submissions are reviewed before publication. Identity and evidence are checked; new facts get dated source records, then scores and affected collections are regenerated. Owners can supply property details and authorized photographs, but cannot directly edit ratings, computed distances, editorial conclusions or confidence.

Automated processing and its limits

Software calculates scores, distances, filters and structured listings from stored records. A calculation is not a hotel visit. Narrative summaries describe those records and must not substitute assumptions for missing facts. Source labels and unknowns apply to both traveler pages and the public text listings used by AI assistants.

Photographs

Photo ownership, permission and reuse terms are separate from verifying a hotel. Sourcing an image from an official website does not by itself establish permission. Photographs without an approved rights status are withheld. Rights holders can request a correction or removal through the copyright page.
